Wow! My old stomping grounds of Leslieville (lived there from 1998 to 2001) has sure changed! I drive through there via Queen east all the time to get from the Beach to downtown but this week, I decided to park the car and walk my old neighborhood. Boy, was I in for a delightful surprise! The range of retailers in fantastic … from trendy coffee shops and restaurants to quirky and fabulous stores with vintage wares! Love it!

I’ve been waiting years for this store to come to Toronto! It was way ahead of its time when I first discovered it almost 10 years ago in Michigan… styles are just catching up to the look, vibe and attitude of this store! The huge selection of cool, unique and even cheap cabinet knobs (a la Restoration Hardware standards) is worth the trip to the Don Mills centre alone!

Spring in in the air! Yipee!

Time to lose the wool blankets, dark colours and heaviness in your decor. Spring is a time for renewal, inside the home as well as outside… fresh colours, lighter looks and bringing the outside in!

Here are some quick styling ideas to instantly bring the outside in… and welcome Spring!

add fresh flowers – tulips and lilies especially say spring
bring in nature like branches from budding – especially floral blossom – trees are wonderfully fragrant, beautiful and inexpensive – simply cut off some branches with pruning scissors from a budding tree such as apple, pear or cherry trees; crush with a hammer the very bottom part of the stem to allow for maximum water up-take and place in a large vase of water; you should see blooms within a few weeks
remove dark window coverings and either replace with lighter versions or none at all – let the sun shine in!
replace dark, heavy fabric pillows with light, cotton pillows in bright solids or stripes – vibrant colour is coming back this spring in fashion and in decor!
re-arrange furniture placement – change is always good and spring is as good a time as any to change things up a bit
simplify and de-clutter! – less is more in the spring summer when it comes to what we wear in terms of clothing as well as our decor; put away a lot of the “stuff” from winter – or better yet – have a garage sale – and “purge” – it’s good for the house and for the soul!
